Summer Nights Pattern (Pattern Review)

I’ve been sitting on this Lady McElroy Viscose Crepe Textured Stretch Knit Fabric* from Minerva* But then I was given the opportunity to make the Summer Nights Romper and Two Piece Set Pattern* from Ellie and Mac Sewing Patterns*.

Initially, I considered making the long trouser version with the bishop sleeves. However, I only had 2 m of fabric which meant I could not do the full-length trouser if I wanted to make the top and the trousers using the same fabric. As I already have quite a few jumpsuits, I decided to make for separates.

The viscose crepe is very soft and a pleasure to wear. This type of fabric would be the perfect choice for a pyjama set.

Sewing Summary:

Pattern: Adult version Summer Nights Romper and Two Piece Set Pattern* It features a two-piece set option or romper option, 3 sleeve options (short, 3/4, long and bishop sleeve), two trouser options (capri or full-length trousers) and optional front slash pockets

Sizing: XXS – 6XL. This pattern is drafted for the height of 5’5”/165.10 cm.

Fabric: 2 meters Lady McElroy Viscose Crepe Textured Stretch Knit Fabric*

Notions: 1/2″ elastic* 1m for the medium-sized top.

Modifications: TOP: I cut the Medium and added 2.5 cm at the side seam to account for my longer side seam than the side seam pattern was drafted for. I shortened the sleeves by 2.5 cm. TROUSERS: I cust Large. I scooped the back crotch 1.2 cm to account for my bigger behind and shortened the length by 7.5 cm

Instructions: I found them easy to follow, not that I needed to follow them. The instruction booklet has detailed pictures and

Fit: Is ok. I think for the trousers I could’ve gotten away with the medium rather than the large.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?: yes

Make Again?: I want to make both the top and the trousers again. I fancy making full-length trousers, but I will size them down to Medium from large. I am not sure that my petite frame (I’m only 1.57 m tall) suits capri style trousers especially if I do not wear high heels, which in my day-to-day is not a common occurrence.
