It’s been a few months now that I’ve had this pattern on my To Sew list.

For my first version of this pattern, I wanted to make it in Denim fabric. The construction is quite simple. I did not need to use the instructions. I used my own layout for cutting the fabric.

Ever since I discovered variegated thread, it has become my favorite thread for top-stitching. I think that with this denim the top-stitching gives another dimension to the jacket. It makes it a little more special and it’s quite fun to wear.

Sewing Summary:

Pattern: The Elevated Blazer Jacket Pattern* from Ellie and Mac Sewing Patterns* unlined casual jacket with two front options (rounded or straight) can be made with or without patch pockets in a variety of stretch fabrics

Sizing: sizes XXS – 8XL. This pattern was drafted for our Curvy Fit Size Chart that is drafted for a side waist of 8″ / 20.3 cm.

Fabric: 2 m stretch denim*

Notions: 2 large buttons, interfacing for the collar, facings, and pockets.

Modifications: I cut a straight size Large and shortened the sleeves by 1 1/2″ as instructed to account for my height. I chose the size based on my body measurements

Instructions: I think they are easy to follow although I did not need them. Usually, I do not follow instructions and only check them for seam/hem allowances. Ellie and Mac Sewing Patterns have pictures that come with the instructions to make it easier to follow.

Fit: a little too loose. I expected that given that the jacket requires stretch fabric it will have negative ease and it will be more fitted that the finished garment.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?: Yes.

Watch out for: depending on the look you are after, you may want to size down.

Make Again?: Yes, I have plans of making this jacket again in size Medium with a rounded front.
