As you probably know this year I decided to join in the #SewMyStyle organised by Alex Bartholomew of  BlueBird Fabrics to push myself to try styles that I would not normally go for. In January I made 2 Toaster sweaters I blogged about here.  February’s pattern is Saunio Cardigan from Named Patterns. This was also the first pattern from Named that I have ever made.

For my cardigan I picked this gorgeous fury fabric with sequins from my Abakhan. Let me tell you it was a very messy business. As I knew that would be the case, I planned the whole construction to be done in a day and on the overlocker. As As I am not very fond of the 3/4 sleeves I decided to lengthen them by 10 cm so they are closer to my wrist.  The cardigan is a very simple make so other than checking whether seam allowances are include I only skimmed through the rest of the instructions. From the finished measurements I decided to make the smallest size, even though my body measurements put me in the medium size. I think it would be helpful to mention in the instructions that when adding the seam allowance for the Front facing on the bottom it’s sufficient to ad the normal seam allowance (I first added 2 cm as for hem allowance, then while constructing it, I figured I only needed the usual seam allowance  I chose to go  with 0.6cm as that’s the width on my overlocker. I started by overlocking the bottom of the sleeves and the inside edge of the facings, once I attached the facing pieces. I also used clear elastic to reinforce the shoulder seam as advised in the instructions as well. Due to the fabric chosen for this, I decided that I have no other option but to hand stitch the hems and facing. As I like pretty finishing on my makes than I dread the hand stitching I sacrificed myself. And bloody hell it took me 2 times longer to do that than it took me to construct the whole thing. Cutting and overlocking took about 2 to 3 hours. For this one I managed to take a few pictures at the Bolton Town Hall, with Gemma’s help of course. People working there thought we were crazy. I even got some evil looks from someone. Ha ha! So, this is my second make in the #SewMyStyle 2017. I noticed recently I’m making a lot of changes to the patterns I use. But hey, that’s why we make our own clothes, isn’t it? Well that’s one reason why I love sewing anyway.
